What is a backseat driver?

A backseat driver is a person who continually gives unwanted and unhelpful advice or critique from the passenger seat while someone else is driving a vehicle. They may criticize the driver's every move, offer unsolicited advice, make unnecessary comments, or otherwise try to control the driver's actions. Backseat drivers can be distracting and annoying to the driver and may even pose a safety hazard if their comments cause the driver to lose focus or become overly stressed. The term "backseat driver" can also be used more broadly to describe someone who tries to control or micromanage another person's actions or decisions.
